The purpose and direction of the establishment of Ingenuity Serials, is to forge a brand new path into a staid landscape of currently banal comic book media. Ingenuity is launching a fresh, dynamic approach that merges the finest elements of cinema with a focus on reality and the drama of the human experience. Integrating the harsh and gritty, no-nonsense environment that encompassed the essence of the Platinum and Golden-Age comics that created the comic book industry.
So-called comics of today have made a steady decline in story content, character development and in generally captivating the interest of their long-suffering fans. Laziness, a simple lack of heart and/or skill, has degenerated the comic book genre into a self-depreciating record that is unceasingly skipping upon the same worn-out groove. Long gone are the thrills and excitement of the hero’s struggle and noble cause that swept up the audience as they cheered him on. The keen steel-edge of the relentless fight and resolute justice that pounded, punched and kicked it’s way through each panel. Heroes and she-roes that exuded an unadulterated morality and virtue, qualities that youth as well as adventure-starved adults were inspired to emulate. It engulfed you up in the crash and bang of it all, sweeping you up in a virtual social movement that compelled you to pitch in, and join the effort.
Through agenda-driven marketing decisions borne of corporate dictate and in some cases outright censorship, the comics medium today lies an eviscerated hollow of it’s former self. Upon close examination, the current state of comics in general, is replete with absurd plots that are regurgitated over and over ad nauseum. Filled with one-dimensional villains who are awful self-parodies with zero connection to any earthly relevance or significance. Saddled with “safe” clichéd tales that fail to challenge, excite or inspire, the audience finds itself a hostage mired in a flavorless void. Whether this is a case of industry profit-driven insipidness or by calculated design, comic books in the now, are by-and-large, fast losing the interest of their intended audience.
The Golden-Age comics of yesteryear was the finest era of originality, creativity and daring! Stories that boldly confronted and profoundly attacked the evil that lurked in people’s everyday shadows and haunted humanity’s existence. Justice was pursued and promoted by fearless, inspirational mega-heroes that ruthlessly dispatched human evil. Extraordinary individuals who courageously set things just, right and whole in their world.
Comic stories were grounded to reflect the real world, and much like film, and gave wickedness a human face that people could respond to. It was the world simplified into the good versus evil melodrama that played out on a folksy level and resonated within the people’s consciousness. People demanded their life’s due and fought for their inherent rights to it. When denied and thwarted in the real world, they sought to find the catharsis of justice in pulps, novels, films, heroic radio dramas and comic books.
What we have left nowadays are heroes with absurd powers combating equally outlandish and flamboyant villains primarily from space and ultra-dimensions. Whom amongst us can ultimately relate to disconnected realities and preposterous foolishness such as this?! The bitter reality is that the righteous epic hero has been alienated from our existence and isolated far from our midst and psyches. I’ve lived by the adage that if you want something done right, you did it yourself and it’s that same DIY attitude that spawned Punk, Jazz and Comics in the first place.
Bold innovation, initiative, risk, and shake-the world determination were all the hallmarks of the industry of that bygone era. Ingenuity Serials is here to pick up that proud, tattered flag that once heralded something novel, something epic, and give the people back their heroes. We don’t refer to what we offer as “comic books”, Ingenuity produces what we have originated as Graphic Serials. Graphic Serials define our bold new concept in a concentrated effort to depart from the stigma of the out-dated term “comic books” which implies by it’s very name, a medium of juvenile comedy not to be taken seriously.
That being said I want to simply let the work speak for itself, as the stories have been painstakingly thought-out and the characters that you will acquaint yourself with will hopefully inspire as well as entertain you. As I’ve hoped to resurrect the long since abandoned traditions of the 1930’s Golden and Platinum Age with it’s fire, heart and uncompromising appeal. By extracting the finest heroic & dramatic elements, and infusing them with modern sensibilities we have built a new vision. Welcome back to fun, excitement, exhilarating thrills and edifying satisfaction, welcome to the world of Ingenuity Serials!
